Originally, my bears were made of mohair, and relatively large, but because of my general interest in miniatures they have gradually decreased in stature. These days, most of my bears are 3.5 inches or less, and I use both mohair and upholstery velvet.

All my bears are made to my own designs, and because I like to pay close attention to the small details, I make very few each year.  I prefer to make one-of-a-kind bears and occasionally small limited editions.

Unfortunately, over fifteen years of intricate hand-sewing has resulted in problems with my hands, and I'm no longer able to devote much time to bear-making. However, this has  allowed me to rediscover my love of fibre arts and papercrafts, and I have recently become interested in altered and mixed-media art.

I hope that you will enjoy visiting my bears. Please feel free to e-mail me with any comments or questions.

Regards,

Maria

Meet Maria, the creator of the Bears by Design bears ...
Hi, my name is Maria Adams. I live in Oxfordshire, England, with my husband, David. We have two grown-up sons, Dan and Tomm, who no longer
live at home.

I have been interested in art and crafts since childhood. I made soft toys for my sons when they were small, but it wasn't until 1990 that I made my first bear - a tiny felt bear with seams
on the outside.
